New Officers Elected at Annual Meeting

On Sunday, January 24, the congregation of St. James’ Episcopal Church, at the

Annual Meeting elected new officers. Belva Zocher-Burke was elected to the Vestry. Those whose terms continue on the Vestry are: Chris Aliota, Peg Cechvala, Carson Gorecki-Nix, Mary McCann and Judy Schulze. There are currently two unfilled Vestry seats.

Mary Ann Peterson continued in the second year of her term as Senior Warden.  Jeff Kylar continued to serve in year two of his term as Junior Warden. Jim Knaak has been elected by the Vestry to serve as Treasurer. Vicki Knaak has been elected by the Vestry to serve as the Clerk of the Parish.

The following were elected as representatives to the Diocesan Convention which will be held on October 8-9, 2010, at the Italian Community Center in Milwaukee.

This year’s special guest and speaker at the Convention will be the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church, the Most. Reverend Katherine Schorri.

Our reps will be Peg Cechvala, Gerianne Kelly, Judy Schulze, Mary Janisch, Nina Radcliffe, Paula Altamirano and Bill Schulze. There is currently one open position for convention delegate. We are allowed to have four voting representatives and four alternate representatives.

The Episcopal Church is governed through shared leadership between the laity and clergy. Thank you to all who volunteer your time and talent to making our common life possible.

2010 Flower Donations

This is a reminder that we still have some Sundays available for flower donations for 2010. You will find the flower chart on the bulletin board  next to the kitchen. The fresh flowers that we purchase to decorate the church run approximately $70 per week. The suggested donation is $35, and we suggest that two people share a week. Following the service on Sundays, the flowers are often taken to shut-ins at area nursing homes when volunteers are available to do so.

If you would like to donate the flowers for a specific week, envelopes are available next to the chart. Fill out the front of the envelope with the date you would like to donate flowers, what they are given in memory of or in thanks of, and include a check for the appropriate amount. Then put the check in the Secretary’s mail box.

Membership at St. James' Episcopal Church

The Episcopal Church is open to all people in search of a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. We do have some requirements:
  1. A be a sinner -- We find that perfect people are rather boring and usually don't fit in well here!
  2. Have doubts about your faith -- We are all struggling with doubts. The problem with people who have no doubts is that they are usually dead! We are a church of the living.
  3. Have a place in your heart to share and receive love -- Genesis 1 tells us that we are all made in the image and likeness of God. At the heart of God is Love. We are called to share that love within our congregation , in our relationships and in the world.
